What makes the The Willows G7 Grenache the perfect wine?
The ‘G Seven’ Grenache is a stunner from old vines planted back in 1969 by 5th-generation Bert Scholz, nestled in the sandy soils and cool gully breezes of the Light Pass subregion in Barossa. This was a near-perfect vintage - mild weather, great rainfall, and impeccable vine health - setting the stage for one of the best growing seasons in years. Hand-picked in two passes to balance brightness with depth, the fruit was handled gently in small open fermenters, with clever use of whole bunch fermentation and extended maceration to build texture, fragrance, and finesse.
In the glass, it’s a vibrant mix of red fruits, lavender, and a hint of savoury spice. Think red licorice and raspberry upfront, unfolding into earthy, graphite tones with a peppery edge. The tannins are soft but persistent - like a well-worn corduroy jacket, relaxed but stylish. This is classic Barossa Grenache with a modern touch: juicy, layered, and quietly complex. Perfect for a long lunch, charcuterie spread, or something off the coals.
The Willows G7 Grenache pairs well with:
- Pork belly
- Grilled beef
- Chicken
- Game
